Festival Results
Each year we attend as many festivals as possible, which involves racing against women’s dragon boat teams and with other breast cancer survivor teams. The festivals usually take place over a two-day period.
Sistership has participated in festivals across Canada and into the U.S. Thanks to the variety of festivals, team members have the opportunity to attend about four festivals per year.
Calgary holds a Dragon Boat festival every year, which allows Sistership to host other breast cancer survivor teams. Every four years, there is an international breast cancer festival (IBCPC) which has taken Sistership across the world and the next festival, in 2026, will be held in Aix-les-Bains in France.

Silver Lining Paddle Palooza, Montana:
Sistership paddlers paired with the Calgary Canoe Club, Outrigger division and had the opportunity to participate with a larger paddling community in a one-of-a kind 30 mile voyage experience called Paddle Palooza! This event is not a race but rather a spiritual adventure that includes paddling teams from around the US, Canada and Hawaii. The Silver Lining Paddle Palooza is really about the power of ceremony, about honoring Mother Earth, our ancestors and the healing power of water. Returning to this event was Hawaiian elder and legend Kimokeo Kapahulehua, who led paddlers in a traditional Hawaiian ceremony, alongside the Pacific Islander Community Association of Montana as well as Confederated Salish Kootenai.

Sistership Calgary sent a crew of paddlers to Lake Karapiro, New Zealand, for the International Breast
Cancer Paddlers’ Commission Dragon Boat Festival from April 10 through April 16, 2023. The experience
was inspiring and exhilarating as 2,275 participants from over 30 countries came together to compete,
paddle, have fun, and support each other. The spirit of communal well-being and camaraderie was
palpable from the lively Opening Ceremonies and Parade of Nations to the exhilarating races, heartfelt
